We’ve reached another important milestone in the development of Xcat Global Marketplace.
Xcat now has its own dedicated Translation Server, and it is already translating and preparing marketplace content for international visitors.
Rather than relying entirely on browser translation, Xcat is building its own translation system. Marketplace content can be translated in advance and stored ready for visitors, helping pages remain fast while making Xcat easier to use across different countries and languages.
What will this mean for visitors?
As the system is rolled out:
- 🌍 Xcat will automatically recognise the visitor’s country and provide an appropriate supported language.
- 💱 Our Currency Engine can display prices in the visitor’s appropriate currency.
- 🚚 Xcat Shipping determines which products can actually be delivered to their country.
- ⚡ Translations can be prepared and cached in advance rather than translating an entire marketplace page every time it is viewed.
- 🛒 Buyers will increasingly be able to browse an international marketplace in their own language while still buying from sellers in other countries.
Spanish is our first development language, with French translation now being prepared and tested. More languages will be introduced gradually as each one is tested and approved.
This is still an evolving system, and machine translation will never be perfect, but it represents another major piece of the infrastructure behind our goal:
