Xcat now has its own dedicated Translation Server, and it is already translating and preparing marketplace content for international visitors.

Rather than relying entirely on browser translation, Xcat is building its own translation system. Marketplace content can be translated in advance and stored ready for visitors, helping pages remain fast while making Xcat easier to use across different countries and languages.

What will this mean for visitors?

As the system is rolled out:

• 🌍 Xcat will automatically recognise the visitor’s country and provide an appropriate supported language.
• 💱 Our Currency Engine can display prices in the visitor’s appropriate currency.
• 🚚 Xcat Shipping determines which products can actually be delivered to their country.
• ⚡ Translations can be prepared and cached in advance rather than translating an entire marketplace page every time it is viewed.
• 🛒 Buyers will increasingly be able to browse an international marketplace in their own language while still buying from sellers in other countries.

Spanish is our first development language, with French translation now being prepared and tested. More languages will be introduced gradually as each one is tested and approved.

This is still an evolving system, and machine translation will never be perfect, but it represents another major piece of the infrastructure behind our goal:

Xcat Shipping has been developed specifically for our global multi-vendor marketplace. It replaces our previous fixed shipping system and gives sellers much greater control over how and where they deliver their products.

What Xcat Shipping provides

Sellers can now create and manage:

• Delivery zones covering individual countries or global regions
• Countrywide and regional delivery areas
• Multiple carriers and shipping services
• Weight-based postage rates
• Free shipping for selected weight ranges
• Standard and Next Day delivery services
• Order preparation and dispatch times
• Delivery estimates for each shipping service
• Different rates for remote or surcharge areas

Local-currency shipping rates

Sellers enter shipping charges in their own local currency.

When a buyer uses the same currency, the original shipping charge is displayed without conversion. For international buyers, Xcat converts the shipping charge into the buyer’s currency automatically.

Clearer information for buyers

Available shipping methods are displayed directly on participating product pages, including:

• The carrier or service name
• The shipping charge or Free delivery
• The order cut-off for Next Day services
• The estimated basket total
• An estimated delivery date or delivery range

Xcat Shipping also checks the buyer’s country and delivery area before displaying the available services.

Built for a global marketplace

Every seller controls the countries and regions they are prepared to serve. This allows sellers to start locally, deliver nationally or gradually expand into international markets.

Multi-seller orders are calculated separately for each fulfilment seller, helping ensure that the correct shipping service and charge are applied to every part of the order.

The Xcat Vendor Manager provides the core systems needed for registered users to buy and sell through Xcat.

The completed V1 foundation includes:

• Separate Purchase and Sales Ledgers
• Seller balances, reserves and payout requests
• Bank and PayPal payout preferences

The new Buyer Area also clearly separates purchases from marketplace selling:

Xcat Global Currency Engine V1

The Xcat Currency Engine allows Xcat to provide a more useful experience for visitors and registered users outside the United Kingdom.

The system can identify the appropriate country context and display catalogue prices, purchase records, seller information and invoices in the user’s relevant currency.

The underlying Xcat financial records remain controlled and auditable while users receive a clearer local-currency experience.

What comes next?

Our next major development project is the Xcat Shipping and Estimated Delivery Engine.

This will provide one unified system for Xcat and marketplace sellers, including:

• Seller-specific shipping zones
• Country and regional delivery availability
• Weight-based shipping rates
• Seller-defined delivery services
• Product-level free and flat-rate shipping
• Multi-seller basket calculations

The existing shipping systems will remain active while the new Xcat engine is built and thoroughly tested.

Xcat Motors uses a different approach to traditional vehicle marketplaces.

Sellers can list and sell their car totally FREE.

There is:

• No vehicle listing fee
• No sales commission
• No percentage taken from the sale price

Instead, Xcat uses a simple buyer-funded contact model.

A buyer can browse vehicle listings and view the vehicle details without charge. When they become seriously interested and want to contact the seller directly, they pay a small £1 one-off fee to reveal the seller’s contact details.

Once purchased, that buyer has permanent access to the seller's contact details for that vehicle listing.

💡 Why charge the buyer £1?

The £1 isn't intended to be a barrier to genuine buyers. It provides a small commitment before somebody gains access to the seller's phone number.

For a buyer who is genuinely considering purchasing a vehicle, £1 is a very small amount. But that small step may help reduce casual enquiries and time wasters, giving sellers a better chance of receiving contact from people with a genuine interest in their vehicle.

It also allows Xcat to keep the core proposition simple:

Xcat Motors isn't just about complete vehicles.

We've also launched the Motor Parts & Tools subcategory for vehicle-related products, including parts, accessories, maintenance equipment, workshop tools and other automotive items.

This means Xcat Motors can grow into a broader automotive marketplace where users can find not only their next vehicle, but also the parts and tools needed to maintain, repair and look after it.

Xcat Motors V1 is now live, and we'll continue developing it based on feedback and real-world use from buyers and sellers.
